Recommendation for the book: "Biodynamic Gardening"
Rainer Sax, one of Schiwa Semlja's advisors, recently recommended a wonderful and useful book on bio-dynamic gardening that we would like to recommend to all our friends and interested people.
The book was written in English, translated into German, and published in both languages in 2015.
Monty Waldin / "Biodynamic Gardening / Grow healthy plants and amazing produce with the help of the moon and nature's cycles" /DK / ISBN 978-1-4654-2986-5.
Monty Waldin's book has vey readable texts and descritions. In addition, it is well organized and is full of pictures to help gardeners understand and aply the bio-dynamic methods.
In the book's two page retelling of the origins of bio-dynamic thinking, which was first presented in 1924 by Rudolf Steiner, we are reminded of the issues Steiner raised. Almost 100 years ago Steiner warned of the following dangers caused by the industrialization of agriculture (pages 58-59 in both the Englisch and the German editions):
- Danger to bio-diversity - think of the WWF report (October 2016) on the dramatic drop in biodiversity over the last few decades.
- The loss of habitats for birds and bees - think of our dying bee population and the resarch to pin-point the causes.
- Water pollution from pesticides and chemical fertilizers - think of the state of Lake Eire that lies between Canada and the USA, only one of many well-resarched examples.
